Binary Body
Maflohé Passedouet, 2013
Interactive work
Materials, techniques, methods: computer, wide angle video projector, kinect
Dimensions: Projection on a screen or on the floor, image with a base of at least 3m
Themes: A hybrid between the real and the virtual, between our bodies and communication network
Binary body is an interactive work by Maflohé Passedouet.
The work collects the movements of participants via a Kinect. The images created by participants’ bodies are projected as a video onto a screen or a floor.
Binary body reveals the digital environment that constitutes the halo of our lives. The myriads of the binary code’s zeroes and ones gravitate around the visitor, assembling into clouds and turning in curls that each visitor animates as they interact with the work.
When a new participant arrives, the communication takes shape; a flow of data springs into the space, which is permanently altered by the actions of the protagonists.
Co-production by Mobilis-Immobilis, Fées d’Hiver and Blue Yeti. Maflohé Passedouet, the artistic director of Mobilis-Immobilis, coproduced this hybrid form with the Lab and arts centre Fées d’Hiver and the interactive concept creator Blue Yeti, with co-creators and heads of the companies, Erik Lorré and Jean-Michel Couturier
